Why We Prefer You To Use Peer, And Why Your Payment Is Safer Than You Think
A transparent look at how checkout works here, and why we built it this way.
The problem with "normal" checkout in our industry
Research supply companies like ours operate in a category that traditional credit card processors classify as high-risk, not because anything improper is happening, but because the category is specialized and processors paint with a broad brush.
The practical result: businesses in this space are frequently forced onto unstable, short-lived payment processors. When those processors fail — and they do, often with no warning — customer payments get stranded, orders get delayed, and stores disappear overnight.
We refuse to run our business that way. Our customers deserve a payment system that will still be standing next month.
How Peer works — in plain English
Peer adds a verified escrow layer on top of payment apps you already trust and use. Here's the flow:
- You place your order on our site as normal.
- Peer generates a secure payment instruction directing your payment through the P2P app of your choice.
- You send the payment and confirm it inside Peer’s verification step.
- Peer holds the transaction in its contract system until the payment is verified on both sides.
- Only after verification clears is the transaction released and your order moved into fulfillment.
That middle step, the verification hold, is the part that looks “extra” at checkout. It’s also the part doing the protective work.
What this means for you
Every payment is verified before anything moves. Nothing is released on trust alone. Peer's contract layer confirms the payment actually occurred before the transaction completes which protects both sides of the exchange.
Your order won't get stranded by a processor collapse. Because we're not dependent on a fragile credit card processor, a shutdown on their end can't freeze your order or your refund in limbo.
A clear paper trail exists for every transaction. Your payment app receipt, plus Peer's verification record, means your purchase is documented end to end.
"But it felt different, is different bad?"
Different isn't the same as risky. Card checkout feels normal because it's familiar, but familiarity isn't security. The card system's "protection" exists largely because card payments are so frequently compromised that a dispute apparatus had to be built around them.
Our system takes the opposite approach: verify first, complete second. It's a few extra taps at checkout in exchange for a payment structure that doesn't depend on the weakest link in our industry.
